The Vision for Wicken Fen
The Wicken Fen Vision is a 100 year project by the National Trust to create a landscape scale nature reserve and green lung for Cambridgeshire and the East of England, covering 53 sq km, the largest landscape restoration project being undertaken in lowland Britain.
Stretching from Wicken Fen to the very outskirts of Cambridge, the Vision will see the re-creation of a mosaic of traditional fenland habitats to help protect and conserve endangered species of wildlife whilst providing a vast area for public access for leisure, relaxation, exercise and education.
The Vision will provide significant scope for inward tourism and provide opportunities for employment and local enterprise at a local and regional level, with particular emphasis on accommodation, hospitality and visitor services such as cycle hire, pony trekking, caravanning and camping. The Trust is also working to implement sustainable transport links in and around the Vision lands with onward links to larger conurbations.
The Vision is being developed by the National Trust in association with a number of strategic partners including, Cambridgeshire County Council, East Cambridgeshire District Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambridge City Council, Department for Communities and Local Government, East of England Development Agency and Cambridgeshire Horizons.
Come and find out how this project will impact on business and community life in the area.
